Our client is seeking an experienced Project Engineer to join their team in London. The successful candidate will play a key role in the development and pre-construction phases of Solar PV and Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects throughout the UK. As part of a dynamic mid-sized renewable energy developer, you will support project delivery from the initial technical assessments through to securing the necessary approvals and preparing for construction.
Responsibilities
Project Development (Technical):
- Site Feasibility Analysis: Conduct technical evaluations of potential project sites, including solar PV and BESS suitability, grid connections, and environmental impacts.
- Design and Layout: Collaborate with internal teams and external consultants to develop project layouts, optimizing for energy generation and cost-efficiency.
- Technical Assessments: Perform detailed energy yield assessments, shading analyses, and evaluate technical constraints.
- Grid Connection: Liaise with Distribution Network Operators (DNOs) to secure grid connection offers, manage grid applications, and assess grid capacity.
- Due Diligence: Ensure all technical due diligence is completed during the development phase, including reviewing third-party reports (geotechnical, environmental, etc.).
Pre-Construction Responsibilities:
- Permitting and Approvals: Coordinate with planning teams to support permitting applications, ensuring compliance with local and national regulations.
- Procurement: Assist in the selection of EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction) contractors and suppliers for key project components (PV panels, inverters, batteries, etc.).
- Technical Documentation: Prepare technical documents and specifications for tendering and construction phases.
- Risk Assessment: Identify and manage technical risks associated with project development and pre-construction activities.
- Stakeholder Liaison: Work closely with landowners, local authorities, and other stakeholders to ensure smooth project progress.
- Budgeting and Cost Control: Contribute to project cost estimates and ensure all technical aspects align with budgetary requirements.
Requirements
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, or related field).
- Experience: Minimum 3-5 years of experience in renewable energy projects, specifically Solar PV and/or BESS.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in energy modeling tools (PVSyst, Homer, or similar) and CAD software.
- Knowledge: Strong understanding of UK grid connection processes, renewable energy regulations, and solar PV/BESS technologies.
- Communication: Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to work in multidisciplinary teams and liaise with external stakeholders.
- Certifications: Professional certifications in project management (PMP, PRINCE2) are a plus.
